At Birds Eye View Psychology® EMDR is one of our main therapy approaches. This is due to it's broad evidenced based applicability, and the inclusion of EMDR as a focussed psychological strategy for the treatment of PTSD under the Medicare Better Access to Health Care Scheme.
Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy, commonly known as EMDR, is a mental health therapy method. EMDR treats mental health conditions that happen because of memories from adverse life events or traumatic events in your past.
It’s best known for its role in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but its use is expanding to include treatment of many other conditions such as anxiety, depression, addictions and eating disorders.
A clinical psychologist has the same foundation of training as a general psychologist does, however, a clinical psychologist will have studied a Master’s or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
One of the biggest differences between a clinical psychologist and a general psychologist is their area of expertise.
Clinical psychologists have a much more specific scope of practice, largely working with clients suffering from mental health conditions, as they are extensively trained on identifying, diagnosing and treating mental illnesses ranging from mild to severe.
Similar to a general psychologist, clinical psychologists are required to attend ongoing training and education, to stay relevant in the ever-changing world of mental health. Clinical psychologists attract a higher medicare rebate then general psychologist usually resulting in a smaller out of pocket expense for your therapy.
Please make contact with our helpful administration team by phoning 07 3733 0933 or email info@birdseyeviewpsychology.com.au. New clients who are accepted for service will be offered an Intake Assessment and advised to book 6 sessions in advance to ensure you have regular appointment times.
A course of treatment is usually 10 sessions. However, if you have longstanding mental health difficulties or your child is developing differently (Eg; is Autistic or ADHD), your intervention could be longer. At the end of your first 2-3 sessions I will provide you with an understanding of your current difficulties, a proposed intervention plan and recommended duration of intervention. Your plan and duration of intervention will be unique to your individual needs and therapy goals.
I am currently focussing on individualised therapy services and am unable to offer formal assessments at this time.
I provide intervention in my rooms in Paddington, Brisbane (QLD) and I also offer Telehealth (videocall) services. I don't conduct therapy sessions via phone. Please advise admin if you are seeking Telehealth sessions so we can determine if this is right for you.
Due to my practice structure I am unable to work with deliberate self harm or suicidal ideation if that is the primary problem you are seeking support for.
I am unable to provide crisis support, acute services or respond in an emergency that is related to your mental health. If you require emergency support please call 000 or present to your nearest hospital.

We understand that life can get in the way of scheduled appointments. We ask that you provide us with at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Otherwise, you may be charged a cancellation fee.
Intervention from a clinical psychologist can be claimed through NDIS provided the therapy goals relate to your funded disability and result in an increase in your functional capacity. If you are unsure please check with Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or plan manager.
Please see your General Practitioner (GP) to determine if you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This will give you 6 sessions (and the potential for 4 more) per calendar year with a Medicare rebate. The Medicare rebate does not cover the full cost of your session and there will be what's called an "out of pocket expense". Please see my fees to determine this option will work for you.
